The news, in its many forms, has a duty to report newsworthy stories in an accurate and non-biased way. Conjecture and supposition, as is the case with much of the media south of the border, is not a responsible act nor does it serve any other purpose than to earn the "you heard it here first" moniker, regardless of how truthful it may be.

Papers, the internet, television and radio are also used to allow for opinion to be voiced, be it from the public masses, political entities or the personal views of the staff of said news media.

The news has, for decades, been the avenue for right of center thinking and due to the ownership of most news and media companies and their connection with the wealthy, well-positioned, right-wing establishment, a direct conduit for the voice of the wealthy few.

The newspaper and its readership have the right to print and to read opinion that is both right and left of center. For every reader that has a set of 'values' or subscribes to a certain political ideal, there is another whose voice deserves to be heard and a readership who wants to listen. The fact the The Prince George Citizen has an editorial staff that allows for the left-of-center voice to be spoken and heard is a refreshing change to the status quo of 'the media' that has for far too long been the voice of the far right.
