Child molester gets less jail time than maple syrup thief

Since when did stealing maple syrup warrant a harsher sentence than molesting a four year old child? Yes, a man was sentence to eight years imprisonment and a fine for stealing maple syrup (page 7, Citizen, Jan. 28).

Yes, a man was sentence to eight years imprisonment and a fine for stealing maple syrup (page 7, Citizen, Jan. 28).

Yet the molester of a four-year-old child was sentenced to only 18 months (front page, Citizen Jan. 28).

This is outrageous. Are children, and their physical and emotional well being, worth less than maple syrup?

Our system is failing families and children. The cost to our society, in social and medical terms, is enormously impacted by how our children are valued and treated.
