I drive a bus for a well known public transportation company. My regular week starts with a trip to Jasper, AB, on perhaps one of the most treacherous highways in B.C.. I drive from P.G. to Jasper then return. This week, January 24/25, (Saturday/Sunday), I checked the weather reports for my trip to Jasper and in all they weren't that great.
I am writing this letter to express tremendous gratitude to all the men and women responsible for the excellent conditions I encountered as I went and returned from Jasper. I encountered black ice, rain, snowy, slushy and wet winter road conditions as suggested by the weather reports. What the weather report could not tell me is that the whole fleet from YRB-PG, YRB-Slim Creek and the whole Robson Valley LDM road crews were out in full force to make this trip, perhaps the best trip I have had this whole winter. I realize that the mild temperatures can give a false sense of better roads, but as an eight-year veteran with a lot of time spent on Hwy 16 East, I know that this is when the most accidents happen. Last night, I did not see a single vehicle in the ditch on my route. This can only happen when committed people are out there, around the clock and in all weather conditions. Thank you. See you folks next Saturday night.
