Too often in recent years on these pages, school district trustees and senior officials have been portrayed as hard-hearted and cold-blooded as they struggled to make difficult decisions regarding school closures.
The reality is that both the elected and unelected leaders at School District 57 are caring, passionate men and women.
Here's an example. We were at Brodie Sawatsky's funeral in Surrey on Saturday afternoon to mourn the loss of our dear little friend and support his grieving mother.
Among the overflowing crowd were superintendent Brian Pepper, board chair Lyn Hall and trustee Valentine Crawford, who took the time out of their busy schedule attending provincial meetings to pay their respects to a special young man.
Brodie's mom appreciated their thoughtfulness very much and so did we.
