Campbell missed out on an awesome legacy

I am curious to hear how many people know the meaning of the word demagoguery. In fact our whole world is plagued by this practice.

I am curious to hear how many people know the meaning of the word demagoguery.

In fact our whole world is plagued by this practice.

This weekend marks the 14th year since my son Shane and four friends were tragically killed when the car they were riding in collided with a loaded logging truck on a very icy highway at Dome creek, east of PG.

Now for me and the rest of Shane's family and friends, this loss has been and continues to be devastating.

What do we learn as individuals and as a society when such tragedies occur? For me there are no words that can explain the impact on my life over my son Shane's senseless death and has changed my life completely.

Now more than ever I am practicing a renewed kindness, honesty and integrity. I am at peace with the tragedies in my life and I want to be a good example to my children and now my grand kids.

Also this weekend, a new Premier will be sworn in and he or she will swear an oath to all British Columbians to all kinds of promises with no intention to honour, just as ex-Premier, Gordon Campbell did in the last three elections.

We all know how many promises he broke in 10 years. How many untruths... Gordon Campbell is the uncrowned king of the practice of demagoguery.

The media are asking what will Premier Campbell's legacy be? Over the past few days, Mr. Campbell has mentioned in the media that the one disappointment he has had during his term as Premier was his drunk driving conviction.

After Mr. Campbell's drunk driving conviction, he asked for forgiveness from the electorate and promised to get tough on drunk drivers.

He missed out on an awesome legacy. He had the opportunity to turn his drunk driving conviction into the best drunk driving legislation in the world.

Yes the latest legislation is better, but in no way good enough and it took 10 years to make these changes. He could have turned his mug shot photo into a campaign telling all Canadians, young and older that drunk driving is not allowed in this province.

How many more deaths need to occur before we get serious about drinking and driving? When will a human life become a priority over the growing greed that plagues our society? 2010 has ended with people power in the small country of Tunisia and 2011 has continued the people power in Egypt and now in Libya.

Overthrowing more dictatorships in a peaceful way without guns. Why do we not grab a hold of the power that these young people have shown before the next election?
