When the Enbridge pipeline is up and running, there will be $50 million-plus per day of oil going through the pipeline.
Alberta, the federal government and the oil companies will make billions of dollars over the life of the pipeline. B.C. gets 90 to 100 jobs.
Do you really think that is a fair deal for the people of B.C.? I don't. A road tax of two per cent per barrel that goes across B.C. would be fair. That would be a million dollars-plus per day or $400 million-plus per year to the B.C. government.
If the pipeline was running today and our government had imposed a two per cent road tax our car insurance and Hydro rates would not have to go up and there would be more money for health care. Do you think B.C. should impose a road tax on oil?
Or is 90 to 100 jobs good enough?
