Two weeks ago Sunday, Wayne got lost. Alzheimer's patients have sometimes been gone from their homes for long periods of time, we were lucky this time and he was returned in about an hour.
We live downtown, close to Save-On, London Drugs, and Timmy's.
On this day Wayne had walked to the grocery store for a tomato and some mushrooms to add to the hamburgers for dinner. It's only three blocks and a trip he makes almost daily. This gives him something useful to do, besides walking the big black dog that many people are used to seeing him with. He won't take the dog on shopping trips because he is afraid someone will steal him, if he is tied outside the store.
I guess a Timmy's coffee and donut were on his mind, so instead of coming straight home, he diverted up Victoria. We don't really know the route he took that led him away from home, because he couldn't remember. He was rescued up Tenth Ave. across the Bypass near the Tenth Ave Liquor Store.
We think someone, bless your kind heart, saw him looking lost and spoke to him. Wayne had a phone with him but doesn't know how to use it. I believe the Samaritan may have used that to find our son, who had programmed in his several phone numbers.
Dave came and rescued Wayne, who he found in the parking lot sitting in the car with this stranger. They were keeping warm.
My kindest thanks to you for taking the time to help our very special man. Our sons are now on a hunt for the best way to have a GPS on Wayne's person, so that I can track and find him.
Do you know the song Make Me a Blessing (To Someone Today)?
Well, that was certainly your special day, and ours too.
