The recent spate of motor vehicle accidents on Highway 16 causing deaths is unacceptable.
The community of Burns Lake has had five deaths in the last two months. I lived in Burns Lake for 26 years and as a former employee of the Ministry of Transportation and eventually Lakes District Maintenance I saw first hand the slow, but steady erosion of winter highway maintenance. This seems to have pervaded to other maintenance groups as the overall quality of snow and ice removal has just been reduced to an unacceptable level.
The Highway of Tears slogan was coined for the loss of many women who have disappeared.
It now must include the general public who must travel Highway 16.
