Attitude at hospital

Dealing with finding out the cause and cure of the illness a family member experienced recently raised my fears and concerns in the area of treatment. When one is ill and suffering we want reassurance, answers and some compassion not attitude. No one wants to experience a bad attitude at any time much less when one is very ill and confused about the illness.

Our family had the unfortunate experience of dealing with attitude in our time of distress. After several visits to emergency and numerous hours of left waiting on a bed without anyone communicating to us what, why, when, where, and whom was going to give us some help and answers left us with feelings of distrust and confusion toward this institution.

I believe there is a serious lack of communication between staff and patients. I would like to see this "attitude issue" addressed and dealt with so others do not get similar treatment. How about a communication centre to express our concerns or a box in the main lobby for this purpose. I would like every experience at this institution to be a positive one for all of us. A positive change in this area rather than a negative one is for the good of all of us we depend on our hospital to care for us.

The public is more informed and aware today so if we want answers to our questions we should not have to deal with attitude because of it. We all know our own bodies better than anyone else, which is why we need doctors to listen to us. No one wants to be given condescending answers or treated like we are too stupid to understand. As our doctor, if you don't know then be honest and say so, provide someone that does know but don't keep guessing and dispensing meds in the hopes they might work. Meds and our lives are too costly to play around with by guessing.

On a happy note we gratefully commend Dr. Turner and Dr. Kibonge for stepping up and getting to the bottom of our family member's health crisis. We are also very grateful to the pharmacists at Hart Drug mart Pharmacy. I thank God for those that really care. Had this health crisis progressed further I fear the outcome would have been devastating to our family. Thank you to all the great people that work at the hospital and really do a commendable job and I praise you all for being the good, caring, people that you are. I thank God for people such as yourselves.

To those of you working there that made it very unpleasant for us, I pray for you and all others that put their trust in your care.

When you look in the mirror realize that you are a part of the "problem." What are you going to do differently?
