Area schools preparing for end of classes

The last few weeks of school are here and Vanway has been very busy with dance performances, field trips and with the Grade 7 year-end graduation dinner.

The last few weeks of school are here and Vanway has been very busy with dance performances, field trips and with the Grade 7 year-end graduation dinner.

Still, there are a few things happening, on Friday come and enjoy Ssports day, where your children will have a fun-filled day of events, with the primaries staying in the afternoon with fun activities and the Intermediate going on a field trip to the Roll-A-Dome.

Taking place June 25, from 1:45-2:15 p.m. is Term 3 intermediate honour roll/principal's list, then June 28, at 9 a.m. the Grade 7 orientation trip to CHSS. Last but not least, June 29, 12:30 - 2 p.m. year end awards assembly/final reports.

On Monday, students from Duchess Park's Me to We group, headed downtown for the official opening of the Community Garden. Some Duchess Park students were involved in the garden project, painting containers and planting gardens. Tuesday night, Duchess Park hosted its year-end awards evening. Recognition included students who attained principal's list in all three terms, top department awards, and top athletic awards,

Rotary Citizenship/Lion's Service Award and the Principal's Cup. Parents were also recognized for their school support. At the evening awards, there was a presentation of a beautiful traditional button blanket that was created to celebrate the opening of the new school. Wednesday, students attended grade assemblies to acknowledge three terms of honour roll, work habits, athletic awards and service awards. The last day of classes is today. On Monday, school and provincial exams begin. Report card pick up is June 29, from 1- 3 p.m.

Secondary school apprenticeship scholarships announced. School District 57 Career Programs announced the recipients of this year's scholarships. A total $26,000 in education funding was presented at the school board meeting June 1. Each student achieved success in their trades training while also in secondary school, and each received $1,000.

On Tuesday, Grade 5 students at Malaspina elementary graduated from the RCMP DARE Program. Students received award certificates from members of the RCMP.
