I recently was in the Dollar Store on the Hart. I was in the store for several minutes, shopping for birthday cards, and when I came out, there was a white van parked right beside my car, which I thought was strange, as the parking lot was all but empty.
As I got closer, a lady came toward me admonishing me for having left my little dog in my car. At first, I was shocked. It was in the mid-20s with a slight breeze and the windows were open slightly, I ensured the interior was in shadow and my dog had some food and water in her seat. I reacted automatically with outright indignation, words were exchanged, and we both left the lot.
Driving home, I thought about it, and I wish to extend my abject apologies to this very pleasant, concerned lady. I realized I must have been in the Dollar Store for more than five minutes, to allow enough time for this lady to pull in, park, get out and write me a note and put it under my wiper.
I have absolutely no excuse for this lapse of judgment and am very thankful that there are people out there who care enough for dogs (and small children too), and have the courage, to approach complete strangers. Being in my 60s I certainly should have known better.
Again I apologize and although I do not know the identity of this lady, I hope she will continue being diligent and help others to avoid this terrible mistake, the consequences of which will remain with us for the rest of our lives.
