An exercise in futility

It was a year ago when Bruce Strachan was playing piano at our North Central Senior Association Christmas dinner that I said to him "writing letters to the editor is pointless." He replied "I beg to strongly disagree.

It has been my observation after reading for eight years the responses of readers of the articles that I was reading re the Palestinian/Israeli conflict that years later the same user names were expressing the same arguments and hurling the same insults at each other.

No one's mind had been changed. It's an exercise in futility, or possibly the definition of insanity: 'doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result' (but then probably no result was expected) or, "don't bother me with the facts my minds already made up."

This issue has for me always been simple; it`s a matter of theft, a black and white issue, an issue of right and wrong and if a person could get past the rhetoric and insults the truth would be revealed.

That much I believe requires a lot of reading from credible sources and letters to the editor is not a source.
