After reading Dan Moffat's letter about the Groveburn Pit cleanup, I felt I must write to offer my kudos and support to those who did the work. I'll be there to help if there's a next time - that place looked like a war zone in a Third World country.
As a resident of the area, I've observed what used to be a somewhat-to-be expected seasonal ritual when hunters sight in their rifles turn into a relentless barrage of gunfire, including automatic weapons, going on at all hours of the day or night, all year long. What on Earth are these people shooting at?
And they leave the area littered with thousands of shell casings, trash, and the remnants of fires fueled with old pallets (complete with nails) in the middle of the road. To date, my efforts to report this and other local side-road dumping grounds to the Regional District have resulted in a boiler-plate e-mail informing me that the information has been "forwarded to the appropriate department", but little else. I would ask that the "appropriate departments", including the RCMP, take action to put a stop to this nonsense.
