A thank you to Red Cross volunteers

Congratulations to Prince George volunteers, Selen Alpay and Judy Dix, for their significant contributions that won them the B.C.

Congratulations to Prince George volunteers, Selen Alpay and Judy Dix, for their significant contributions that won them the B.C. Community Achievement Awards (PG Citizen, March 21)! As April 6 - 12 is National Volunteer Week, I'd like to take this opportunity to recognize some other outstanding volunteers hard at work in our city.

In particular, I'd like to acknowledge the more than 2,400 Red Cross volunteers in B.C. and Yukon who contribute thousands of hours every year. These volunteers - including Judy Dix - provide essential medical equipment to clients so they can recover at home after surgery, accidents or illnesses. They rush out in the middle of the night to help those hit by disasters. They train youth and adults on how to prevent bullying. Without these volunteers, the important work of Red Cross would not be possible and we would not be able to help as many people as we do.

I truly admire you, our volunteers, for giving your time to the various Red Cross volunteer positions. We very much appreciate your commitment with the northern B.C. and Yukon team - not just this week, but throughout the year.
