A simpler approach

I saw the articles in the Monday, May 25 paper today about GMO foods and Monsanto and have a few comments.

A sizable portion of our population wants Monsanto to be legally compelled to label their product with the letters GMO - the Green Party in particular was named.

Monsanto is a rich and powerful company that will be able to tie attempted legislation up in the courts for decades - even if we have government support, which we probably will not. So this approach would quickly devolve into a power struggle.

A much simpler approach is available.

Simply encourage producers of non-GMO foods to voluntarily label their product as non-GMO and everything else on the grocery shelves is GMO by default. Monsanto would have a very difficult time getting traction to ban the use of non-GMO labeling.
