I was sorry and sickened to read of Dr. Reuben Gabriel's recent experience of racial bigotry at a local store (Racism out of place, out of time, May 14). I was sorry, too, that Dr. Gabriel wasted polite replies, gentle correction, and perhaps a few too many multi-syllable words on someone who obviously could not understand him.
This someone - who perhaps looked like "a tall white man in his late sixties" - was most assuredly a Neanderthal in disguise. As for the silent bystanders, perhaps Cro-Magnons?
