An open letter to Americans on their day of independence:

Greetings. I am overjoyed that my publishing date lands on your 242nd birthday. As a nation, culture and people you continue to inspire us in your defence of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, both at home and around the globe. I for one am thankful to live in the Pax Americana that has made the world safer and more prosperous than at any other time in history.

Obviously, as a Canadian, I remain loyal to the same royal house you cast off long ago. I wish that we were still one people under the same throne and altar; yet, your elected executives prove that a free people can make wise choices if given the chance at self-government. That is a lesson to be applied here in the Great White North; instead, our political class has taken all the prerogatives of the Crown unto itself while restricting the power of the common people's voice.

Our countries have perhaps never been more dissimilar than they are today. While our elites continue to put Canada's heritage through a cultural Marxism grinder on the public dime, I see that American patriotism is alive and well. Our Canada Day, despite its name, has a terrible habit of celebrating everything but our founding and history; meanwhile, your abstractly named day cannot be more red, white and blue. Staying with the empire didn't save us from radicalism.

As every sound-minded person of your great nation joins in making America great again and rebuilding your preeminence in the world after the defeatism of the last president, Canada is forced to reflect on the fact that your "can do" mentality will eventually drain every profitable resource from our borders if our "can't do" mentality persists. Your union is almost a hundred years older than our confederation - yet it is our politics that are clearly old, tired and vacuous.

It is my fervent hope that it is not too late for us. And I have good reason to believe that your current administration will continue to make things difficult for our own leaders who cannot see reason. Ironically, Canada is in need of its own Independence Day, to actually save our Glorious Queen, let alone her subjects: we are overtaxed by political masters who undermine our freedoms constantly. Without a major correction, violent factionalism is sure to arrive soon.

I encourage you to continue showing the world what a free-society ought to be: dynamic, patriotic, rewarding and powerful. By your example, and your pressure to "grow up," we can only hope that Canada will one day walk beside you as an equal.

Happy Independence Day.
