My wife and I have been suffering from the smoke lately so I went online to research air purifiers. Seems like the ones we can afford are not much good and the good ones are quite expensive. Fortunately, on one of the review sites I came across an idea said to have been seen originally on HGTV which we are trying out. If you own a 21" x 21" box fan (we have three because they fit in our sliding windows so nicely) tape a furnace filter to the input side and run it on low speed continuously. The poster said he had experimented with various Filtrete filters and found that the 1000 worked best. I found these at Rona ($24) in the 20" x 20" size (same as my furnace takes) and bought two. One I attached to the fan yesterday and the other I put in the furnace replacing a much cheaper one. Too early yet to tell if it works but here's hoping.
