Last week was very tragic in regards to the loss of human lives in Prince George. I was appalled to see that the Citizen newspaper made the decision to publish on the front page of their newspaper, a horrific picture of the accident scene at 22nd Avenue and Nicholson Street.
This form of reporting is deeply disgusting and shows total disrespect to the surviving family, loved ones and people who directly and indirectly were and are involved with this tragedy.
The publishing of grossly explicit material needs to change in order for The Citizen to maintain integrity and respect to the Prince George public.
The next issue I would like to address is the picture on the front page of the next day's issue of the Citizen (although it was a beautiful autumn picture).
I cannot fathom why a city employee is wandering Connaught Park blowing leaves.
Seriously, how does leaf blowing in October rank high priority on today's job list?
I think all lawn cutting and leaf blowing events should be suspended at the end of September.
Money saved from that could pay for janitorial services at our local pool.
So as a taxpayer living in Prince George I suggest two things to the incoming new mayor and city council: that they need to implement an effective warning system on our pedestrian crosswalks on the main artery roads (20th Avenue and Victoria Street, for sure) to ensure safety to the pedestrian and to give the driver time to stop in time to help in ending the needless loss of precious lives.
The second suggestion is to continue looking at ways of saving money to the taxpayer as we all have been shown that our hard-earned money going to consistently rising taxes is still being blown in the wind.
