While Laura Secord and Emily Carr should definitely be considered, I would like to recommend that you include a couple of outstanding Canadian women whose courage and determination despite overwhelming male dominated pressures were fundamental in shaping our great country not only for women but for all Canadians.
These women are my first choices for nominees to be honoured on the 2018 Bank of Canada notes;
1. Agnes Macphail: first woman federal MP, truly a great Canadian and deserving to be honoured for her courage & champion for worker rights, seniors pensions, prison reform, gender equality, first women delegate to league of nations, founder of Elizabeth Fry and succeeded despite overwhelming pressures and insults from male dominated opposition MPs.
2. Nellie McClung: championed the right for women to vote.
