Recent comments about the Site C Dam made by B.C. Hydro's CEO, Jessica McDonald, demonstrates the total arrogance of B.C. Hydro and the complete lack of respect for the people of British Columbia.
When she answered a question about what B.C. Hydro would do if Site C is delayed or struck down by the courts by saying, "Our plan is to build Site C, and as I said before we're moving forward with implementation," she also demonstrated an absence of respect for our court system.
I personally do not want the Site C Dam built - the case for need has not been proven, and the loss of the Peace River Valley with all of its current worth and future potential is unacceptable given the uncertainties of our climate-changing world. But even if I were a supporter or Site C or undecided I would be offended and outraged by these comments.
These are the comments of someone trying to force this dam down our throats for the good of B.C. Hydro and not for the good of the province. These are the comments of someone trying to create a picture of a dam project that is a done deal. These are the comments of someone out of touch with due process.
Finally, these are the comments of someone who does not want the discussion to delve into just how much this dam would cost the people of B.C. through increased electricity rates and through paying for the debt that B.C. Hydro will incur by going ahead.
