I am writing to thank and acknowledge the people of Prince George for your support of the 22nd Annual Prince George Relay For Life held on May 10th to 11th at Masich Stadium.
It is a real privilege to be a part of this community - our city may be known as Prince George on a map, however it will forever be known as 'Relay City' in my heart. There is strength in numbers and the citizens of Prince George, all 1450 participants on 148 teams are evidence of this strength.
With the Las Vegas theme permeating the air from start to finish, and the goal to be the number one Relay For Life event in Canada, the resolute spirit of all participants, donors, sponsors, and volunteers was palpable throughout the weekend.
Thank you to all of you for your role in funding vital services for cancer patients and their families. Your efforts make it possible for the Canadian Cancer Society to provide caring and affordable accommodation to cancer patients, cancer information and support programs, and complimentary wigs and prosthetics.
At a time when over 1,000 northern British Columbians are diagnosed with cancer each year, you give support and hope to so many families and individuals.
You also support important cancer prevention initiatives aimed at reducing cancer incidence, including homeowner education about Radon, youth programs about the impact of ultraviolet radiation, and advocacy work for stronger tobacco legislation.
Thank you for sharing your strength and community spirit to stop cancer in its tracks.
A very special note of thanks goes to the volunteer Prince George Relay For Life committee and to the dedicated volunteers that contributed their time and energy during the weekend.
We cannot definitively state our position as #1 Relay For Life just yet - there are many more Relays being held throughout the months of May and June. We can say that this year you have raised more than $520,000 to date! This is an extraordinary feat and a testimonial to the collective power of a community with a mission.
Thank you for your role in fighting cancer - together we will stop cancer before it starts.
