Boy, people sure missed something historic at the meeting of the College of New Caledonia's board on March 25. The board turned down the college administration's recommendation to raise student tuition and other fees.

The vote was not even close: 6-3 against. A first ever?

Even if the absent board members had been in attendance, the motion would still have failed as a result of a tie vote.

After the result was known, the room fell into a stunned silence, followed by an eruption of applause from students in the gallery. The president asked for a do-over, taking names on the second vote. Same result.

The unlikely coincidence that the government of Canada fell on a confidence vote the same day was not lost on some the attendees.
