Having vaccinated nearly one million British Columbians, the province has lowered the age of eligibility for people to receive their inoculations.
People aged 60 and older (born in 1961 or before) can now register for their shots through B.C.’s new Get Vaccinated system.
Clinics are also open to indigenous people aged 18 and older (born in 2002 or earlier).
Online registration forms to arrange for an appointment is now available 24 hours per day at getvaccinated.gov.bc.ca. You can also register by phone daily from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. by calling 1-833-838-2323. Once you have registered you will receive a confirmation code through email, text or phone call to confirm eligibility to book an appointment. To avoid overloading the system, people must wait until they are age eligible.
The vaccination clinics will take place at the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre, 808 Canada Games Way. Each appointment will take 10 minutes and people who receive vaccinations are required to remain at the site for an additional 15 minutes to watch for adverse reactions. Clinics will be running Tuesday-Saturday until May 1. Clinic times could vary.
Pharmacies throughout the province are now administering the AstraZeneca vaccine for people between the ages of 55 and 65. AstraZeneca has been widely used throughout the United Kingdom and Europe since January and while it has been linked to causing blood clots in younger patients, the vaccine is generally regarded as safe for people 55 and older. In Prince George, the pharmacies now administering vaccinations are: Third Avenue Pharmacy, 1467 Third Ave.; Save-on-Foods Spruceland, 555 Central St. West; Hart Drug Mart, 6707 Dagg Road; Wal-Mart Pharmacy, 6565 Southridge Ave.; and Costco Pharmacy, 2555 Range Rd.
Since the Get Vaccinated online booking system began last Tuesday, more than 650,000 B.C. residents have registered and more than 170,000 have received their shots. The province expects to average 40,000 vaccinations per day in 170 clinics now operating in B.C. The age of eligibility will drop in five-year increments as the Phase 3 Phase 3 Immunization Plan ramps up.
