Sixth Avenue between Dominion and Quebec Streets will be permanently closed starting Tuesday to make way for construction of a new downtown hotel.

The plan is to build a 95-room hotel on the site at a cost of about $15 million. It will effectively replace the Days Inn, which will be leveled to make way for a new Four Seasons swimming pool.

Mundi Hotel Enterprises Inc., which owns the North Star Inn and Suites at Victoria Street and Patricia Boulevard, is leading the project and Horizon North Logistics Inc. is the contractor.

Council approved the closure and sale of city-owned land for the work in 2018.
