Update: Second crash closes Highway 16 west of city

For the second time on Monday, a crash has closed Highway 16 west of the city.

In an alert sent out shortly before 4 p.m., DriveBC said the highway is closed at Haynes Road, 12 kilometres west of Bednesti Norman due to a vehicle incident and an assessment is in progress.

RCMP said it was a two-vehicle crash but had no further details.

Earlier the same afternoon, a collision between a chip truck and an SUV closed a four-kilometre stretch of the highway west of Bednesti Norman, between Guest Road and Hillcrest Way for about 90 minutes.

Also on Monday afternoon, a portion of Highway 97 south of Hixon was reduced to single-lane alternating for a time.
