A local hotel and restaurant are offering temporary grocery delivery services in Prince George during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Prestige Treasure Cove Hotel and the Grand Trunk Tavern Oyster Bar & Grill will order the goods from their business suppliers and deliver them to people's homes with a two- to three-day turnaround, a statement issued on Wednesday said.

"(We) recognize that buying groceries is difficult right now for many, and we want to play a proactive role in helping our community through this crisis," a statement issued by the companies said. "There will be food, sundries, beer and wine available. There is no markup on food. You pay what we pay our suppliers, because the purpose of this program is not to profit from a crisis but to facilitate social distancing and provide aid for our more vulnerable communities in Prince George."

The company has an order guide, but can bring in most other products by request, the statement said. Orders and product requests can be submitted by emailing princegeorgechef@prestigehotels.ca or calling 250-614-9111.

"There is a minimum order of $50, and a $10 delivery fee to cover expenses. The deliveries are contactless; you pay via credit card when placing your order, and you will be contacted when it is on its way to your doorstep," the statement said. "Orders must be submitted by 9 a.m. to ensure they are included in the next purchase order."

Food purchase totals must be higher than alcohol purchase totals for each order. The companies said if the service is popular, it will consider keeping some inventory on site and expanding the possible payment options.
