Unlocked windows are acting as welcome mats for enterprising thieves.

RCMP have been called to four complaints over the last week in which culprits gained entry through an unlocked window.

Jewelry was taken from 2900-block 20th Avenue home on Friday afternoon, a 32-inch television set went missing from a 1400-block 20th Avenue home on Saturday, jewelry was stolen from an 1800-block 11th Avenue home on Sunday evening and various items, including a laptop, 32-inch television, portable DVD player and frozen food were taken from an 1800-block Tamarack Street home on Tuesday.

Entry variously gained through second-level and ground-level windows and in one of the homes, an alarm was in place, but not activated, RCMP said.

RCMP also recently responded to four break and enters where front doors were left unlocked.

"With the weather getting warmer, RCMP want to remind home owners to ensure windows and doors are shut and locked before leaving their homes," police said. "The use of an alarm system is also encouraged to not only detect, but deter would-be thieves."

Also, if you find yourself a victim of a break and enter, do not touch anything and call police right away, RCMP said.
