The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George board meeting will be open to the public this Thursday, with social distancing measures in force.

The regional district's Prince George office is closed to the public, except by appointment, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"(But) people will be able to come for the meeting. The boardroom is probably the only part of the building that will be open to the public," district spokesperson Renee McCloskey said. "It's business as new normal."

McCloskey said it's expected some of the directors will use the option to attend the meeting remotely, which was approved as part of the procedural changes approved by the board in response to the pandemic.

Other local governments in the province, including the City of Prince George, have used powers granted by a ministerial order under the B.C. Emergency Program Act to close their meetings to the public. Unlike city council meetings, the regional district's meetings are not live-streamed online.

The open meeting takes place at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the regional district offices.

Some of the items on the agenda include a proposed remedial earthworks project at the Foothills Boulevard Regional Landfill, and proposed increases to the honorariums paid to members of volunteer fire departments in the district.
