Prince George man suspected of crashing stolen vehicle

A man police say is a well-known prolific offender was allegedly behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle that went off the road south of Chetwynd early Friday morning.

A man police say is a well-known prolific offender was allegedly behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle that went off the road south of Chetwynd early Friday morning.

Tre Robert Rhiness has been charged with possessing stolen property over $5,000 and possessing a break-in instrument, according to court records.

RCMP were called to the scene on Highway 97 at 5:05 a.m. The vehicle had been abandoned but with the help from witnesses, the driver was found, police said, and added the vehicle had been stolen in Mackenzie.

Rhiness remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Dawson Creek provincial court for a bail hearing on Thursday.

Rhiness also continues to face counts of assault with a weapon and uttering threats from an alleged May 30, 2018 incident in Prince George.
