A man is in custody and facing six charges following the separate thefts of a motor vehicle and a piece of jewellery.
Well known to police and the courts, Sam Anthony Rossetti, 21, was arrested Wednesday afternoon, roughly 4 1/2 hours after RCMP received a report of a vehicle stolen from a 4700-block First Avenue location.
At about 1 p.m., it was seen near the junction of Highways 16 and 97 and then found abandoned on Lansdowne Road a short time later.
With the help of a police service dog, Rossetti was apprehended and as that was occurring police determined the vehicle was involved in the theft of a necklace worth $8,800 from a local jewelry store shortly before it was first seen.
The necklace was found in a subsequent search of the vehicle, RCMP said.
Rossetti faces two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000 and one count each of theft over $5,000, driving while disqualified, willfully resisting or obstructing a peace officer and breach of probation.
Rossetti, who has a lengthy criminal record, remained in custody as of Thursday.
