The Prince George Airport saw its highest-ever volume of passengers last year.

In 2014, 445,929 travelers passed through the airport, a 4.5 per cent increase over 2013.

"This is the third consecutive year we have broken the passenger traffic record, which shows strong, stable growth," said Prince George Airport Authority president and CEO John Gibson in a press release.

Contributing to the bump were the additional seats added to existing routes as well as Westjet's new direct service to Calgary and Central Mountain Air's new Prince George-Vancouver route.

"Travel associated with the 2015 Canada Winter Games can also be credited as a number of people attended sponsor summits and test events," Gibson said.

December was the airport's busiest month, with a 12-per-cent increase in travelers over the same period in 2013. January, September and October were also busy months, with increases ranging between seven and nine per cent.

The increase in passengers also means more revenue for the airport. YXS collected an extra $148,110 in airport improvement fee revenue over 2013.
