The Northern Health Connections bus service is re-expanding eligibility for passengers, effective June 1, Northern Health announced on Friday.

In March Northern Health limited eligibility to people who require accessible transportation, anyone over 60 years old, health care staff, physicians and health care students, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Starting next month those travelling for non-urgent medical appointments, discharged patients, medically-necessary companions, and medical staff and physicians travelling for work will be allowed to use the service. People travelling without a medical appointment, including seniors, will still not be able to use the service.

The busses will run with limited seating –12 for coaches and five for minibuses – to allow for social distancing, and enhanced safety measures until further notice. All travel must be booked 48 hours in advance and anyone showing COVID-19 symptoms is prohibited from using the service.

The Northern Health Connections bus service runs between Prince George and Vancouver, Quesnel, Prince Rupert, Fort St. John, Mackenzie, Valemount, Burns Lake and Fort St. James.
