No new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the Northern Health region on Tuesday, and only eight new cases were reported across the province.

The low numbers came a day before Premier John Horgan is expected to announce the province's plan to ease some of the public health orders in place to combat the pandemic.

In her daily pandemic briefing, provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry warned British Columbians not to relax their guard just yet.

"We are not yet through this. There is a long way to go for all of us," Henry said. "Please don't go planning your playdates and expanding your bubble just yet."

The number of cases of COVID-19 grew to 2,232 on Tuesday, while the total number in the north stayed at 51. Three people in northern B.C. were hospitalized from the disease, Health Minister Adrian Dix said.

Across B.C., 78 people were hospitalized with COVID-19, of those 21 were in critical care. The B.C. Centre Disease Control reported that of the three people hospitalized in Northern Health, two were in critical care as of Tuesday.

Four more people died of COVID-19 in B.C. since Monday's report, bringing the provincial death toll from the pandemic to 121. As of Tuesday, there have been no deaths in northern B.C. linked to the disease.

On Tuesday, the B.C. Centre for Disease Control reported 46 people in the Northern Health region had fully recovered from COVID-19. Province-wide, 1,472 people have fully recovered from the disease.

Henry hinted Wednesday's announcement by Horgan will address issues like school, non-essential travel in the province, personal services like hair salons and recreation.

"We'll be looking at what types of activities we can have in the summer, what kind of sports we can play," Henry said. "We'll be looking at different retail sectors... There is lots of innovative things we can do. The premier's announcement tomorrow will have some more details."
