Layoffs hit CN Rail workers in Prince George

CN Rail employees in Prince George were among those caught in a round of layoffs, a company spokesman has confirmed.

Due to lower traffic volumes, roughly 1,200 employees company wide have been on layoff for about the last month, said Patrick Waldron. He declined to say how many of them work in Prince George but did say they included some mechanical workers in this city.

"When volumes recover CN expects to bring those workers back," Waldron said. "Some mechanical facilities in Prince George remain open."
