The local Big Brothers Big Sisters is hosting a Winter Warm Up fundraiser to see who's got the best hot chocolate in town.

The ultimate winter wonderland challenge brings local restaurants together for a friendly mug-to-mug competition to see who has the best hot chocolate in town on Jan. 27.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern BC is asking residents to help support their latest fundraising effort, the Winter Warm Up, by purchasing a cup of hot chocolate from participating restaurants. For every drink sold, a donation will be made in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters, the non-profit that provides proactive mentoring programs to local children and youth.

"The Winter Warm Up is based off of our Big Squeeze fundraiser, which we've been doing for a number of years and we do that one with lemonade," Jane Gauthier, community development coordinator, said. "We thought we'd duplicate that with a winter theme."

Big Brothers Big Sisters is looking to expand their meetings between big brothers and little brothers and big sisters and little sisters to a virtual platform because of the pandemic so that's where the funds raised will be directed.

Restaurants participating include Nancy O's, Betulla Burning, Montana's, Oakroom Grill, Browns Social House, Earls, White Spot and the Rockford Grill.

The restaurant that sells the most hot chocolate wins.
