Highway 97 intersection closed over safety concerns

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure permanently closed the intersection of Highway 97 and Juniper Road in Quesnel on Monday over safety concerns.

Traffic will no longer be able to exit Highway 97 onto Juniper Road, or access the highway from the road. Traffic will be redirected to the intersections of Highway 97 and Quesnel-Hydraulic Road or Larch Avenue.

"Analysis by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure determined the current configuration of the intersection, combined with the significant volumes of commercial traffic, contributes to a collision rate on Highway 97 that is higher than the provincial average," a ministry statement said.

Otherwise, traffic on Juniper Road and access to the adjacent businesses won't be effected.
