A fire that ripped through a home in the VLA on Thursday morning was deliberately set, Prince George RCMP said.

In an update issued Monday, RCMP said investigators have determined the fire was lit outside the home at 2150 Norwood Street.

"At this time, investigators believe the fire is the result of arson," RCMP said.

The home suffered extensive damage but its lone occupant and a dog were able to escape and firefighters were able to rescue a second dog.

The investigation is ongoing, RCMP said.
