A father and son have been charged with attempted murder after a 30-year-old woman escaped a "brutal attack" on a remote logging road late Saturday night, Prince George RCMP said.

James Stanley Filiatraut, 53, and William Thomas Filiatraut, 21, also face one count each of aggravated assault and kidnapping. They remain in custody and are scheduled to make their first appearances in court on Monday.

RCMP said they received two reports at about 11 p.m. of a person in distress on Highway 16 about 50 kilometres east of the city.

Police and paramedics arrive to find the woman being helped by a passing driver. She was transported to hospital for treatment of severe, life-threatening injuries.

"Initial indications were that the victim had been driven down a remote forest service road where she was brutally attacked, before escaping and walking out approximately seven kilometres to the highway," RCMP said.

The woman's name was not released but RCMP said the suspects and the victim are known to each other.

"Police are confident that the victim was targeted, that this was not a random act and that the public is not at risk," RCMP said in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon.

"The investigation is continuing. Due to the sensitive nature, no further details will be released at this time."
