Nine Duchess Park Secondary artists put their skills to the test on Wednesday evening while competing in the Art Battle Duchess Park SD #57 Youth Tournament.

The first of two 20-minute rounds started with all nine artists creating a piece of art that was then voted on by those in attendance to see who would advance to the next round. Competing in the first round were Jamie Wiegand, Charles Mills, Elliot Wilson, Rebekah Ryan, Rebecca Nore, Alyssa Zimmer, Aimee Fraser, Blake Storey, and Syndle Norlander. After voting was closed and the ballots tallied Wiegand, Wilson, Ryan, Nore, Fraser, Storey, and Norlander were moving on. Originally there were only supposed to be six artists advancing however due to a tie it was decided that seven painters would be allowed to compete in the next round.

The second 20-minute round started with the seven artists competing for one of the four spots which would see them move on where they will face students from PGSS, Kelly Road Secondary, and the Centre for Learning Alternatives in the district Art Battle to be held in May. Once the votes had been counted for the round, it was annouced Blake Storey, Elliot Wilson, Rebecca Nore, and Rebekah Ryan would be advancing with Storey and Wilson tying for third place, Nore finishing second, and Ryan as the top vote getter.
