The driver of a pickup truck pulling a horse trailer was killed Saturday afternoon when the vehicle went off the road in the 32500 block of the Hart Highway.
Witnesses told RCMP the tires caught on the ditch and pulled the southbound truck and trailer over the embankment.
The driver and lone occupant was pronounced dead at the scene while a miniature horse in the trailer survived without serious injury.
B.C. SPCA was contacted to transport the horse and the stretch was closed for several hours to allow investigators to collect evidence and for a crew to clear the scene.
Weather appeared to be the main cause and there was no indication that alcohol or speed were factors, police said.
The victim's name was not released.
