Paul Daniel Shaw, 26, has been charged with the spree of speed and destruction that wheeled through the city on Tuesday morning.

It is alleged that Shaw was the lone occupant of a stolen Dodge pickup that rammed three police vehicles and narrowly missed a Mountie on foot, almost struck a civilian pedestrian, collided at high speed with a road median and travelled erratically through the bowl area to evade police capture.

The theft of the truck was reported at about 7:30 a.m. and Shaw was arrested about four hours later on foot after the truck was found abandoned.

Provincial crown has approved charges of theft (over $5,000), possession of property obtained by crime (over $5,000), flight from police and dangerous driving.

"Investigators are confident that more charges will be approved at a later date," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass.

"Shaw has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance scheduled for March 25 at the Prince George Law Courts."
