A Prince George man was sentenced Wednesday to an 18-month conditional sentence order for a spree of break and enters last summer.

Clinton Jay Baraniuk, 31, must also pay $1,760 in restitution under the terms issued in provincial court for four counts of breaking and entering and one count of possessing stolen property over $5,000.

Conditional sentence orders are served at home with conditions such as a limit on the times when the person can be off the property. They typically allow the person to go to work and perform short errands to buy groceries and go to medical appointments but little else.

The outcome stems from an Aug. 15, 2019 arrest after RCMP were notified of break and enters at three businesses the day before. Each business had their glass door smashed and cash boxes were the target, RCMP said at the time.

At about 1:20 a.m, the detachment's street crew unit came upon a break and enter in progress at a business on Quinn Street.

RCMP said Baraniuk sped away in a stolen truck identified as being used in the other break-ins. RCMP did not pursue in the interest of public safety, but a short time later he was found fleeing from the pickup behind a 15th Avenue business.

An RCMP service dog was deployed and took him down.

Baraniuk remained in custody for 12 days following his arrest and for a further 15 days starting in late February on three counts of breaching a release order. Those counts were stayed on Wednesday.

Baraniuk was also issued a six-month $500 recognizance in relation to a Feb. 22, 2020 incident for which he was originally charged with assault.
