The presidents of College of New Caledonia and Western Sydney University signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday meant to lay the groundwork for an exchange of students and instructors.
"As the world is changing and becoming more global, this gives students and employees at CNC the opportunity for exchanges, joint research and curriculum development," said CNC President Henry Reiser.
The MOU also encourages a joint exploration and development of engagement programs and activities focused on Indigenous students and communities.
"CNC has vast experience working with First Nations communities," said Reiser. "This MOU is an opportunity to work with WSU on enhancing the educational experience of Indigenous students in both countries."
Based in Sydney, Australia, WSU is ranked among the top two per cent of universities in the world. WSU is the first Australian post-secondary institution CNC has signed an MOU with.
"We are very pleased to formalize our relationship with CNC and strengthen our international partnerships in North America," said WSU president Barney Glover. "Western Sydney University is looking forward to building student and staff exchange opportunities with the College of New Caledonia, particularly related to First Nations peoples in our two countries."
