BC North bus service up for bid

A competitive process to extend the life of the BC Bus North service is up and running. A request for proposals was issued Friday and will remain open until August 22 through the provincial government's BCBid portal.

A competitive process to extend the life of the BC Bus North service is up and running.

A request for proposals was issued Friday and will remain open until August 22 through the provincial government's BCBid portal.

Pacific Western Transportation has been providing the service since June 2018.

According to a summary on the portal, BC Transit is seeking "qualified and experienced public passenger transportation companies" to provide the service which runs from Prince George to Prince Rupert, Valemount and Fort Nelson and communities in between .

The contract would last until March 31, 2021.

"Many people depend on the bus in northern B.C. This is an important step towards creating and sustaining reliable inter-city bus service in the North," said provincial Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Claire Trevena in a press release.

"We remain committed to safe, reliable and affordable transportation, so people can get to work or school, access the services they need and have the freedom to travel."
