Arson suspected cause of five fires in Vanderhoof

A suspect is in custody following a string of five suspicious fires in Vanderhoof.

The first was reported on April 11 and the most recent on Sept. 26, RCMP said in a release issued Friday.

"Evidence suggest that all fires were deliberately set," Vanderhoof RCMP Cpl. Wade Harvey said. "While property was all that was destroyed, things could have been much worse. Thankfully no one was injured."

The suspect's identity has not been released. Charges and a court appear remain pending.

The investigation is ongoing and police would like to speak with anyone who may have information on these arsons. Call the Vanderhoof RCMP at 250 567-2222 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800 222-8477.
