A man suspected of threatening an employee with an uncapped needle while shoplifting has been charged with two counts of robbery.

Harvey Jerome Leon Chingee, 33, remained in custody as of Wednesday.

He was arrested on Oct. 23, a day after the alleged incident at an Austin Road business.

Chingee had fled the scene but was identified and picked up on so-called "check day," when income assistance payments are handed out.

It's typically the busiest day of the month for RCMP as they deal with a jump in calls, often for public drunkeness and drug-related offences.

Police have had more than 40 negative contacts with Chingee this year, RCMP said.
