Week One NFL picks

Anticipation for nachos and NFL football

Well, here it is. The grandest of the grand team sports in North America from both a financial perspective and fan base — week one of the NFL season.

The picks are:

Pittsburgh at Cleveland: Baker Mayfield, the QB picked first overall in 2018 will have to warm the bench as Bill castoff Tyrod Taylor gets the start. It won't matter. Bell, Ben and Brown. Steelers 31 Browns 17

Cincinnati at Indianapolis: Two enigmatic teams. As luck has it, star quarterback Andrew Luck returns for Indy. Colts 24 Bengals 21

Tennessee at Miami: Mariota is a better quarterback than the Dolphins Tannehill. Titans 27 Dolphins 17

San Francisco at Minnesota: An intriguing game from the perspective that Minnesota among pundits is a consensus top three NFC team. The 49ers have made strides. Vikings 17 49ers 14

Houston at New England: Tom Brady versus JJ Watt and Jadevown Clowney. I like Tom's chances. Patriots 31 Texans 24

Tampa Bay at New Orleans: Ryan Fitzpatrick? The best they could do for the suspended Jame is Winston. Saints roll 38-15

Jacksonville at New York Giants: Saquon Barkley, the most heralded running back since Zeke Elliott debuts for the Giants. But that Jacksonville defence. Jaguars 16 Giants 13

Buffalo at Baltimore: Joe Flacco is still playing in the NFL. I must be getting older. Ravens 24 Bills 13

Kansas City at Los Angeles Chargers: A great Charger quarterback, Phillip Rivers against Patrick Mahomes. Chargers 28 Chiefs 26

Seattle at Denver: Two once mighty teams aren't so good at this point. Denver 17 Seattle 14

Washington at Arizona: I keep hearing how bad Washington is. Conversely, I hear allegedly how good Arizona is. I'll go with alleged. Arizona 34 Washington 24

Dallas at Carolina: Arguably the league's best running back Ezekiel Elliott is very focused and determined about leading the NFL in rushing after last year's suspension debacle. This may be the Cowboys only road win of the season. Note: Dallas does play in Washington. Dallas 27 Carolina 19

Chicago at Green Bay: Khalil Mack makes his debut against Aaron Rodgers, the NFL's number one quarterback. Given the fact this is at Lambeau, Chicago doesn't stand much of a chance. Green Bay 38 Chicago 21

Monday Night Football

New York Jets at Detroit: Matthew Stafford may school Sam Darnold into what it takes to be an upper-echelon quarterback in the NFL. Detroit 34 New York Jets 24

Los Angeles Rams at Oakland: To me, the best NFC team, the Rams against the Raiders, a team without an identity. Los Angeles 24 Oakland 10
