NEWCOMB — Authorities in northeastern New York state say the body of a 22-year-old Quebec hiker reported missing last fall has been found in the Adirondacks.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation says a body was discovered by hikers over the weekend off Allen Mountain Trail in Essex County.
Forest rangers, a conservation department investigator and New York State Police confirmed it was Leo Dufour, who failed to return from one-day hike as planned on Nov. 30.
Dufour's car was found covered in snow at a trailhead and authorities spent several weeks looking for him last December.
They resumed searching this spring after the snow melted across the Adirondack backcountry.
Dufour, of Vaudreuil, Que., just west of Montreal, had travelled to the U.S. to hike the Allen Mountain Trail.
In a statement, the conservation department offered its condolences to Dufour's family and thanked forest rangers for their efforts in the last few months.
