Toronto Blue Jays send Teoscar Hernandez down to minors

TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays have optioned slumping outfielder Teoscar Hernandez to triple-A Buffalo. Infielder Richard Urena was recalled Thursday and will take Hernandez's place on the roster for a game in Chicago against the White Sox.

Infielder Richard Urena was recalled Thursday and will take Hernandez's place on the roster for a game in Chicago against the White Sox. Urena was previously optioned to Buffalo on April 26.

Hernandez is batting .189 with three home runs, 15 runs batted in, 42 strikeouts and 13 walks in 39 games this season.

The 26-year-old Dominican was acquired by the Blue Jays in a trade deadline deal with the Houston Astros in 2017.

The Blue Jays also announced that outfielder Socrates Brito has cleared waivers and will be sent to Buffalo.
